Natural Diet for Acid Reflux and Heartburn
If you are looking for an alternative to antacids and other medication to ease the discomforts of acid reflux and heart burn, making changes to your diet may be the way to go.
First of all, check to see which of the foods that are currently in your diet is the source of your heart burn. The usual suspects are spicy foods, tomatoes and tomato dishes, and foods with high acid contents, like oranges. Removing them from your diet should offer you some relief. Foods rich in fat are also not recommended since they are harder to digest. Try staying away from milk and caffeinated products as well.
Given this, what are the foods advised for people with acid reflux? First on the list are fruits and vegetables. Apples, in particular, are recommended, especially for sudden episodes of heart burn. Other recommended foods include brown rice, rice cakes, multigrain bread, and baked potatoes. Soft foods are also suggested since they are easier to digest. You are not limited to green vegetables and fish, however. You are still allowed to eat meat as long as they are grilled or baked instead of fried and the fat is removed first.
It is also advised that you drink plenty of water since this helps dilute and get rid of the excess acid in the stomach. Lessening your food intake can also help control acid reflux since the stomach does not need to produce as much acid to digest food. To compensate for the decreased amount of food, try eating more frequently.
