Where is Acai Berry Grown?
The Acai berry is only found on the flood plains of the Amazon river in Brazil, Used for centuries by the Amazon Indians to help boost energy, given to women when they have had children and as a general health boost when they were run down.
It is only found at the very tops of the Acai palm trees and harvested twice a year. The berry is the shape of a grape and the size of a giant blue berry.
So how was it bought to the attention of the west then?
It is said and we don’t know how true it is that a couple of North Americans were surfing down in Brazil and were taken ill. The only people around were the local Indians who gave them the juice of the Acai berry to help them recover. They were really impressed with the berries taste and how it had given them a boost that they bought some back with them and the whole Acai phenomenon started from there. How true this is we do not know for sure.
Can these be grown in other places?
We can not find any evidence of people trying to grow them out of the Amazon area because of the unique properties of the area itself. It would prove very difficult to simulate that kind of atmosphere. So we doubt whether or not that would be possible.
