fiberFor years the medical profession has said that eating a high fiber diet can have a drastic effect on the chances of people getting cancer in the colon. These recommendations were based on some small research studies that were undertaken some years ago. Recent more long term studies by the Harvard University on 16,000 female health professional have said that this is not generally the case, studies that were performed over a period of 16 years have said there is little effect in preventing colon cancer.

Fiber has long been associated with a healthy diet and just because these recent long term studies have shown that there is little to no effect on colon cancer does not mean that you should not bother to take fiber in our diets. Fiber has been proven to have other major health benefits that can help in many other illness’s.

There are many other common diseases which are helped by the regular intake of fiber some of these are heart disease, type2 diabetes aiding constipation.
